On 4 April 2018, at Leova Rayon Council a working meeting on the implementation of ‘Construction of main water pipeline Leova-Iargara’ project was organised. The objective of the meeting was monitoring of construction works under the project and presentation of progress report.

The meeting was attended by representatives of local public administration, management of South Regional Development Agency (RDA), advisors of  ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ (MLPS) project, implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ, contractor, the manager of the ‘Construction of main water pipeline Leova-Iargara’ project, site engineer executing the works and the author of the project.

In the first part of the meeting, the contractor presented the progress report on the works executed until this point. Thus, in total works were executed on the linear part of pipe laying with a total length of around 19,5 km. 6 underground passages under national roads were executed via close method. At the drinking water treatment plant, the windows and doors were changed and 10 gate valves were installed. The parties agreed to follow the action plan, regulations and standards approved in constructions to avoid deviations from the design documentation and ensure high quality of works.  At the same time, all participants in the implementation of this project called for an efficient communication and good cooperation.  

In the second part of the event, the participants visited the drinking water treatment plant and the construction site along the main water pipeline route near Sarata Noua locality.   

According to the contractor and project manager, in the next period it is planned to complete the works related to laying the pipeline, to construct the water intake at Prut River, install the water tanks with a 800 m3 capacity each situated near Leova town (for storing the water from the drinking water treatment plant) and install 2 new prefabricated pumping stations.

‘Construction of main water pipeline Leova-Iargara’ project is part of the ‘Modernization of Local Public Water Supply and Sanitation Services in Leova Rayon’. The total value of the works is around EUR 3 million or over MDL 60 million, of which EUR 2.4 million are provided by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany via the German Development Cooperation through GIZ and EUR 600.000 are allocated from the National Fund for Regional Development (NFRD) and by Leova Rayon Council.   

Duration of work execution is 9 calendar months. The completion of construction works is planned for October 2018. The construction works are monitored according to national legislation in force, as well as by national and international GIZ/MLPS experts.
