The Czech Republic announced the approval of financing for a new regional development project in Moldova. The launch of the project, the potential beneficiaries, including other regional development cooperation activities with our country were discussed yesterday at the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction (MRDC).

Heads of MRDC’s departments and representatives of the Czech Development Agency and the Czech Embassy in Chisinau met and set priorities for cooperation in the field, and listed the main activities undertaken under the joint projects.

Thus, in the South Development Region, experts from the Czech Republic will strengthen the capacity of local authorities for a balanced socio-economic development.

“The project’s subject theme is “Strengthening the capacity of local and regional actors in the implementation of balanced socio-economic development tools in the South Region.” This project will help achieve a balanced economic and social development of the region by enhancing the capacity of local and regional actors in analyzing complex economic problems, identifying opportunities for economic diversification and supporting the private sector in the region, as well as assisting in development of competitive regional projects proposals, based on the experience in the Czech Republic” said Svetlana Rogov, the head of the international relations and attracting investments Department.

At the same time, the experts participating in the discussions at the MDRC decided that the representatives from the Czech Republic would also participate in projects related to the implementation of the Geographic information system (GIS) in the North Development Region.

Another topic of discussion was the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). The Republic of Moldova and the Czech Republic as members of the Strategy agreed to identify opportunities to promote the objectives related to the interconnection of the Danube region; environmental protection, prosperity growth and development of the region.

EUSDR provides opportunities for our country to improve the quality of life, increase competitiveness and attractiveness of the development regions, obtain economic advantages through business partnerships and cross cooperation between the public and private sectors, including the possibility to attract investment in strategic areas such as transport, environment and energy infrastructure. In this context, the Czech counterparts expressed their readiness to support the MDRC in its capacity as the national coordinator in this area.
