The Local Steering Committee sets the following steps within the ‘Modernization of water supply and sanitation local public services in Cahul Rayon’

The Local Steering Committee for the monitoring of the ‘Modernization of water supply and sanitation local public services in Cahul Rayon’ pilot project (MLPS WSS) was held on Tuesday, 23 February 2016, within the premises of Cahul city hall. It was the fourth working meeting of this kind since the establishing of the Committee and the first one this year.   

Members of the Committee, among which are representatives  of the Ministry of Regional Development and Constructions, Regional Development Agency South, German Development Cooperation  (GIZ) and Leova Rayon LPAs levels I and II gathered to discuss several important issues related to activities planned within the project and their smooth implementation.

In the opening of the meeting, Nicolae Dandis, the mayor of Cahul and president of the Local Steering Committee greeted the participants and announced the agenda and the goals of the event. Later on, the progress report for the fourth quarter of 2015 within the MLPS WSS pilot project was presented.   

Eventually, the members of the Local Steering Committee have heard the reports of the project managers  Ivan Stoiciu and Oxana Bondari on the progress in implementing the  ‘Construction of sewerage system in Rosu village’ and ‘Rehabilitation of the drinking water purification plant from Cahul city’ projects.

Stela Strelciuc, the chairman of NGO СONTACT- Cahul, informed the audience regarding the results of the Study on the availability and abilities to pay for water supply services in Rosu and Lebedenco villages from Cahul Rayon.

At the end of the meeting and after several consultations and conclusions, the main necessary activities were established which are to be carried out within the ‘Modernization of water supply and sanitation local public services in Cahul Rayon’ pilot project in 2016-2018.

At the same time, it was decided to announce within one month the competition to select the manager for WSS MLPS project.
