Energy Efficiency Agency announces the launch of the largest national competition for rewarding  successful initiatives in energy efficiency and exploitation of renewable energy sources, MOLDOVA ECO-ENERGY competition, edition 2014.

MOLDOVA ECO-ENERGY is a competition which aims to support the most important initiatives in the production, transmission, distribution and efficient use of energy in the implementation, development and promotion of modern technologies, innovations in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Since 2012, MOLDOVA ECO-ENERGY offers annually awards to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions in the production, transmission, distribution and efficient use of energy in the development and promotion of modern technologies, innovations in renewable energy and energy efficiency, and for this edition, 65 applicants entered the competition.

In 2013, over 60 participants entered the competition of the best promoters of renewable energy and energy efficiency.

“The current mechanism of energy supply is unsustainable, so that is why it is necessary to have a new energy paradigm that will reconcile economic needs with sustainable development for future generations. The Republic of Moldova has proven to be a very ambitious country in energy efficiency, given the necessity of economic growth in terms of percentage decrease as regards the dependence on imported energy with efficiency improvement and promotion mode by applying different tools such as the competition MOLDOVA ECO-ENERGY “declared Mihai Stratan, director of the Energy Efficiency Agency.

The competition is open for public institutions, representatives of the private sector, NGOs, foundations, initiative groups, the media and individuals who have successfully achieved notable, innovative and ambitious initiatives in renewable energy and energy efficiency sector. The participants will compete in the following established categories:

  • Best project in Solar Energy:

–         Photovoltaic

–        Heat

  • Best project in Wind Energy
  • Best project in Hydraulic Energy
  • Best project in Geothermal Energy
  • Best project in Bioenergy:

– Production of solid biofuels

– Production of liquid biofuels

– Assembly and/or installation of equipment associated with the production of bioenergy

– Energy supply systems

– Production of gaseous biofuels

  • Best project in Energy Efficiency in:

– Energy sector

– Industry sector

– Constructions sector

– Transport sector

– Public sector

  • Best Communication Initiative
  • Best Education Initiative
  • Best Youth Initiative
  • Special award

Those wishing to enter the competition will submit a type-application of participation in electronic or printed form addressed to Energy Efficiency Agency, indicating the category in which they compete.

The file can be downloaded from the website www.aee.md.  

The participants can enter the competition one or more projects simultaneously. The same project can not be entered into multiple categories. The application forms are to be submitted during the 5th of March to the 5th of August.

The winners from each category will be selected by independent panels composed of representatives from state institutions related to renewable energy and energy efficiency, renowned specialists in the field of energy, academics and representatives of the civil society, media and communication experts, and where appropriate, representatives of sponsors and donors. The applications submitted by participants will be considered in three stages: examination by evaluation panels, verification visit and on the field and the Coordination Council’s Decision.

For the 2014 edition, there will be considered eligible projects those that was undertaken and completed by 2014.

The winners will be announced and awarded in December 2014 within the Award Ceremony MOLDOVA ECO-ENERGY. There will be recognized the champions in eco-energy sector and it will inspire others to follow their example. The competition MOLDOVA ECO-ENERGY is brought into effect at the initiative of Moldova Energy and Biomass Project, funded by the European Union and co-funded, and implemented by UNDP Moldova.
