Packing and storage house for fruit and table grapes, with simultaneous storage capacity of 1000 tonnes which is built in Costesti village, Ialoveni, could be ready in late September.

The regional project ‘Group of producers and Packing house for modern export marketing services’ started in spring 2014 and is implemented by the Centre Regional Development Agency, with funding from the National Fund for Regional Development and in partnership with the Mayor’s office of Costesti village and a group of local businesses.

The construction of packing house aims to increase revenues and competitiveness of fruit and table grapes producers in the Centre Region of the Republic of Moldova and the creation of direct access of producers to market supermarket chains in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Romania, Poland, Germany, the Baltic countries.

Also, besides the function of fruits’ storage in high capacity refrigerators, the economic object in Costesti will also have processing capacity (pre-cooling, sorting, grading, packaging and labeling) of 5 thousand tons annually.

The total amount planned for construction of packing house is about MDL 27 million. National Fund for Regional Development allocated MDL 15 mln. and the Mayor’s office of Costesti and local fruit producers should contribute with more than MDL 12 mln.

On 4 September, several officials inspected the site from Costesti in order to evaluate the works.
