Integrated Waste Management in Şoldăneşti, Floresti and Rezina – For health and a cleaner environment, collect waste separately

In January 2014 – March 2015, residents of Şoldăneşti, Floresti and Rezina rayons are informed about the benefits of separate waste collection, but also about the responsibility of citizens to pay bills on time for this public service. The campaign, entitled ‘For health and a cleaner environment, collect waste separately’ is performed by North and Centre Regional Development Agencies, with financial support from the German Government. The support is given through the project ‘Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ managed by German Development Cooperation through GIZ.

Promotional materials emphasize the benefits of separate waste collection on health and environment. The campaign’s slogan, ‘For health and a cleaner environment, collect waste separately ‘, accompanies the 20,000 brochures that were distributed to citizens in the 35 public meetings planned. There were placed 400 posters in 35 localities. However, the campaign’s message was printed on 40 billboards.

Consultants of RDA ‘Habitat’, a non-governmental organization selected through a tender to manage the communication campaign held 70 themed public lectures for students of 35 schools from the three rayons. There were organized three thematic drawing contests for students.

However, the campaign involves advice for local citizens committees created for each of the 35 municipalities involved, who ensure the smooth running of the waste management project. Committees are groups of initiative, who voluntarily engage in community mobilization to collect waste separately and punctually pay the fee for public service.
