Centre Regional Development Agency organized a visit to Slovak Republic for mayors from 12 towns in Centre Region. The visit was held during 19-23 October and was part of the Moldovan-Slovak project ‘Capacity building of the cities regarding integrated urban planning in regional context’.

The project is implemented in partnership with the Regional Development Agency Senec-Pezinok, Slovak Republic. The objective of the project is focused on capacity building of cities in the Centre Development Region in integrated urban planning, roles of cities in regional development and the sharing of experiences and best practices among similar cities.

The Moldovan delegation was greeted by the mayors of partner cities Senec and Pezinok. Here Moldovan delegation attended an experience transfer session, where discussed especially about the Moldovan-Slovak development partnerships. During the visit to Slovak Republic, the mayors had meetings with representatives of Bratislava and Samorin cities.

Participants to the visit had a meeting with the representatives of Ministry of Construction, transport and regional development of the Slovak Republic. Here they discussed the role of the Ministry in regional development, but also points of contact between similar institutions in Slovak Republic and the Republic of Moldova.

During the visit, the Moldovan officials have visited several investment projects implemented in the region. One of their destinations was the cultural and information center (KIS) Šenkvice where foreign guests were informed about important locations in the city, but also about all the tourist destinations in the region.

Following the study visit, the mayors intend to bring to Moldova good experience from Slovakia. Straseni town mayor, Valentina Casian, said that ‘This visit is very important for taking over new local development practices. Study visits to developed cities open new horizons in the implementation of all proposed projects and exchange of experience and communication with foreign partners is a source of inspiration for the administration process. Following this visit the whole community will benefit, because it was the basis of Moldovan-Slovak partnership ideas that we intend to develop as soon as possible’.

Moldovan-Slovak project ‘Capacity building of the cities regarding integrated urban planning in regional context’ started in early 2015. The project activities are divided into two parts. The first part provides for the transfer of Slovak experience and partnership development where an interactive 2 days Moldovan Slovak forum will be organized to exchange knowledge and best practices.

The second part will analyze the ‘state-of-the-art’ and further planning / support in the development by carrying out an analytical study on the potential of Centre region, identifying growth poles and visual presentation of results through an interactive electronic map. Finally, there will be developed 12 project concepts for 12 cities in the Centre region with the support of Slovak experts.

The project is financed under the Official Development Assistance of the Slovak Republic and is planned for the period January 2015 – April 2016.

We would like to recall that in the composition of the Centre Region there are the following rayons: Anenii Noi, Calarasi, Criuleni, Dubasari, Hincesti, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Rezina, Straseni, Soldanesti, Telenesti and Ungheni.
